UGC Ad Hook Formulas That Stop the Scroll
A UGC ad can have a great product and a clean edit and still fail if the hook doesn't land. On short-video platforms the first two seconds are everything. These are the hook structures that consistently earn attention — treat them as starting points, not scripts to copy verbatim.
The formulas
- Problem → agitate: name the frustration your viewer already feels, then twist the knife before you introduce the fix.
- POV / relatable moment: 'POV: you just found the thing that fixes [problem]' — puts the viewer in the scene.
- Before / after: open on the 'before' state, promise the 'after.' Visual contrast does the selling.
- Myth / mistake: 'Stop doing [common thing] — here's why.' Pattern-interrupts a habit.
- Curiosity gap: 'Nobody talks about this, but…' — opens a loop the viewer needs closed.
- Social proof lead: 'I didn't believe the reviews until…' — borrows credibility up front.
How to make them work
Keep the hook to one idea. Say it fast, on camera, within the first sentence. Match the on-screen caption to the spoken hook so it reads even on mute. And test more than one — the cheapest way to find a winner is to ship several hooks against the same product and let the numbers decide.
This is exactly why generating ads is useful: when each variation is quick to produce, you can afford to test five hooks instead of betting everything on one.
